Trofimov, Sergey Vyacheslavovich

In the artist’s work, religious images are often used, God, the Virgin, Easter, Orthodoxy, Holy Russia, etc. are mentioned, which suggests thoughts of his Orthodox religious identity. But, as the religious scholar A. A. Beskov ^[14] shows, the musician’s attitude to religion is not so unambiguous. Some of his reservations during various interviews indicate that he is quite critical of modern Christianity and the Russian Orthodox Church in particular, and the text of the song “Gods, My Gods” from the album “Wind in the Head” demonstrates its author's interest in the ideas of Russian neopaganism. These facts, together with the musician’s statements about Russian history and culture, allowed A. A. Beskov to suggest a connection between Sergey Trofimov’s worldview and the mythology of the Ingling religious movement.
