Biography
Born in the city of Riga, in a mixed Latvian-Russian family. She graduated from the music school named after P. Jurian in piano and the 61st secondary school of Riga, then the music and pedagogical faculty of the Daugavpils Pedagogical Institute ( 1977 ).
In the spring of 1978, along with the Silhouette ensemble, she participated in the International Student Political Song Festival. In the summer of 1978 at the republican vocal competition in Daugavpils received 1 place.
From December 1978 to September 1979 she worked as a teacher at the Vecrīga Latvian House of Culture for Latvian Trade Workers in the city of Riga.
In 1977-1979 - The soloist of the ensemble "Inversion", then until 1983 the soloist of the pop and light music orchestra, worked under the direction of Raymond Pauls , Alnis Zakis and Gunar Rosenberg . Since 1980, she toured a lot around the USSR, in 1987 - 1990 . - Soloist of the Chita Philharmonic. In 1990-1991 - artist of the Riga Musical Chamber Theater.
Since 1992, has been teaching in the field of pop vocal.
In 2002, she organized a children's charity festival of the popular Christmas song "Christmas in the Universe."
Daughter - Diana (born 1984), is also a singer.
Creativity
Olga Pirags was a frequent visitor to Soviet television programs - The Wider Circle, Morning Mail, and others; participated in the jazz program of the festival "Slavic Bazaar". In the popular film “ We Are From Jazz ” Olga Pirags sings songs for pop singer Isabella Fox (in the frame - Elena Tsyplakova ).
Raymond Pauls’s song “Two Swifts” to the verses of Andrei Voznesensky was originally offered to Alla Pugacheva, but Pugacheva did not take the song into the repertoire. Later, the song became popular in the performance of Olga Pirags.
In 1986, Olga Pirags, together with the instrumental ensemble Gamma, prepared and showed a large program in which, as Pirags said, she sang "everything she wanted to say."
In 2006, for the first time after a long break, she took part in the “Melodies of Friendship 2006” program. The gala concert of this retro musical project “Names for All Seasons” was held on the stage of the Moscow Variety Theater.
