Canadian breed ( English Canadienne cattle ) - a breed of dairy cattle from Canada . Bred in the XVI century , when the most hardy cows and bulls were selected from the herds of northern France , which were sent to Quebec as the main livestock. Canadians remained the most common livestock in Canada until the end of the 19th century, when other breeds began to crowd them out. Currently, the most common cattle breeds in Canada are Hereford and Holstein . Canadians, although found on farms and ranches across the country, have become a relatively rare breed, with the exception of several areas of Quebec . Recently, efforts have been made to save this breed from extinction.
