Biography
Christina is the daughter of Duke Adolf I of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp and his wife Christina of Hesse . Christine was supposed to marry King Sigismund III , but he broke his promise. Christina, who had never been able to survive this resentment, became the second wife of the future King of Sweden Charles IX . The wedding took place on August 22, 1592 in the Nykoping Palace . She was 23 years younger than the king. Charles IX and Christina were crowned on March 15, 1607 in Uppsala Cathedral .
Kristina very economically ran the household and was domineering in relations with children. She successfully prevented the love affair of her son Gustavus Adolphus with Ebba Brahe and the ascension to the Russian throne of her youngest son Carl Philipp.
After the death of her husband and the loss of her beloved son, Karl Kristina moved away from public life.
