Career
Mason began his refereeing career in 1988, serving matches in the Bolton school league. Since 1992, he began working as an assistant judge in the Football League of the Northwest Counties, and four years later - as the chief referee in this league. Since 1998, he began working as an assistant to the chief referee in the Football League , and since 2000, as an assistant in the Premier League .
Since 2002, he began to serve the matches of the Football League as the main referee. His first match in this capacity was the meeting between Shrewsbury Town and Exeter City on August 10, 2002. In the same year, Mason served the final of the Youth Cup of England .
In 2006, Mason was included in a select group of referees serving the Premier League matches. His first match as the main referee in the Premier League was the meeting between Middlesbrough and Aston Villa on February 4, 2006.
In November 2009, Mason was punished by a weekly demotion to a fourth referee for errors in servicing a match between Fulham and Liverpool , in which he removed Liverpool players Jamie Carragher and Philip Degen [1] . In December 2010, Sir Alex Ferguson criticized the refereeing of Mason, who scored a goal scored in a match between Birmingham City and Manchester United in the last minutes. Nikola игigić violated the rules at Rio Ferdinand , and also touched the ball with his hand, after which he evened the score in the match, but Lee Mason did not react to the violation of the rules and counted the goal [2] .
