Biography
Born in the city of Bialystok, Podlaskie Voivodeship of the Republic of Poland .
He graduated from the Faculty of Humanities at the Warsaw University branch in Bialystok (1982). In 1990 he defended his thesis (PhD) ( University of Toruń ; “Podljashsky Orthodox Centers and Organizations at the End of the 16th – 17th Centuries”). In 1997 he defended his doctoral dissertation (Dr. habil.) ( Catholic University of Lublin ; "Orthodoxy and Unions under Jan Casimir").
In 1982-1986, he taught and collaborated with the Belarusian daily newspaper Niva in Poland. In 1986-1990 he wrote a dissertation. Since 1990, he taught at the Warsaw University branch in Bialystok. Since 1998 - professor at Bialystok University . In 2003-2006, he was the head of the Department of the History of Cultures of the Borderland at the History Department of Bialystok University.
Scientific activity
He is engaged in the study of the Belarusian-Russian-Polish relationship, the history of the Orthodox Church in Poland, Belarus and Russia, and studies the culture of the Belarusian national minority in Poland.
Community Activities
An active participant in the political and cultural life of the Belarusian national minority in Poland. He was one of the founders of the Belarusian Democratic Union in Poland. He was the chairman of the Belarusian Historical Society in Poland.
Member of the Presidium of the International Academy for the Study of National Minorities, the International Association of Belarussians, the Polish-Russian Historical Commission of the Polish Academy of Sciences , the International Church History Commission of the Polish Academy of Sciences , the East Slavic Commission of the Polish Academy of Knowledge in Krakow [1] .
In 1983-1990 and 1994-1998 (from the Belarusian Democratic Union ), he was a member of the Bialystok City Council, and in 1988-1990 - the Voivodship Council of Podlasie. In 2009, he participated in the election campaign to the European Parliament from the Polish liberal-conservative party Civic Platform [2] .
