Vimalamitra

Vimalamitra (8th c.) ( Vimalamitra ^IAST , Tib. དྲི་ མེད་ བཤེས་ གཉེན་ , Wiley Dri-med Bshes-gnyen ) is an Indian Buddhist teacher of the Dzogchen tradition, the main student of Sri Simha .

According to traditional beliefs, Vimalamitra was born in western India. He traveled to China , where he became a student of Sri Simha . Upon his return to India, Vimalamitra, at the insistence of Vairochana , ^[1] was invited to Tibet by emissaries of Tisong Dezen , where he became known as a teacher and translator of Dzogchen texts, as well as a teacher in the school of Tibetan Buddhism, which later became known as Nyingma .

Manjushrimitra , who received an introduction to Dzogchen from Garab Dorje , classified the teachings into three sections: Semde (“section of the mind”), Longde (“section of space”) and Menngagde (“section of oral instruction”). The disciple of Manjushrimitra, Sri Simha , edited the section of oral instructions passed them to Jnanasutra and Vimalamitra, who brought the teachings of Menngagde to Tibet in the 8th century.

According to the Nyingma tradition, Vimalamitra was a disciple of the Buddhaguhya and Lilavajra, as well as Vairochana , who received the transmission of Maha Yoga from the Buddha. ^[2]
