Teterinus

Teterinu [4] [5] (Teterins [6] ; Latvian. Teteriņu ezers [6] ) is a former mill lake [7] on a small left tributary of the middle reaches of the Abava River (right tributary of the Venta ). Located in the east of Kurzeme in the northern part of the Kandava region on the border of the city of Kandava and Kandava volost [2] . Refers to the basin of the Abava river [8] . It is located in a pine forest [6] at an altitude of 48.5 m above sea level [1] in the between the and hills [9] . The lake has an elongated shape oriented in the west – east direction [2] . The eastern end of the lake is swampy [10] . The water surface area is 2.4 ha [3] . Length - 380 m, maximum width - 100 m, coastline about 0.85 km [2] [10] .

The time of construction of the mill and dam is not exactly known [7] , but on the Special Map of the Western part of the Russian Empire of 1832, the publication of a water mill is already indicated [12] . The mill in this place is also mentioned in the calendar address of 1912, where the pine forest surrounding the lake is indicated as a place for walks, picnics and social events. During the interwar period, the lake and the surrounding area continued to be a popular place for recreation and various events: in winter, a skating rink was built on the lake, a boat pier was operating on the shore, a cafe was opened in the mill building and a fish auction was held, aissargs in the adjacent boron organized horse riding competitions riding [7] .

At the end of World War II or shortly after , the dam dam was blown up [7] . In the second half of the 1950s, the place where the mill lake was located was again dammed and divided into two reservoirs, the total area of ​​which significantly exceeded the previous dam. The smaller pond, located closer to Kandava, was converted into a swimming pool of a sports complex at the Kandava Agricultural College [7] [1] and continues to operate until now, it also has a fountain [10] and a sculptural composition by local artist Nifont Kuzmin [7] .

There is a roach , a mustard in the lake [3] . Sometimes swans nest [6] .

In the summer of 2011, within the framework of the project “Atpūtas vietas izveide pie Teteriņa ezera Kandavā”, a recreation area was set up by the lake: a beach of seaside white sand was poured, the lake bottom was cleaned at the beach, changing cabins, garbage bins and toilets were installed; total costs for the implementation of the project amounted to 6271 lats [13] .
