Story
A childless old man and an old woman dream of a son helper. Suddenly Egorushka appears - a tiny boy, born, he said, from a cabbage stalk left by an old woman. He helps the old man chop wood and plow the ground, the old woman - to thread the needle and pick up the apples, protects the goat from the wolf. The passing gentleman , seeing how the peasant horse itself, without the participation of the plowman, walks under the plow, wants to take it back to itself. But the old nag (in the voice of Yegorushka sitting in her ear) persuades the lord to give the old man 100 rubles of money and a new horse in return. Barin agrees to such an exchange and takes the mare to his estate. The old man and the old woman grieve over the disappearance of the boy who remained in the ear of the “talking” horse, but by the night he is happily returning home.
