History
Around 700 BC e. Soly became a colony of Argos and Lindos from Rhodes . For Cilicia, Solas were a rather significant, prosperous and very wealthy city-state . Around 70 BC e., during the Mithridates Wars, the king of Great Armenia Tigran II destroyed the city and resettled a significant number of its inhabitants in Tigranakert . The city was practically empty until 63 BC. e., when Pompey the Great settled Solyas former sea robbers . Grateful pirates renamed the city to Pompeiopol ( dr. Greek. Πομπηϊούπολις ). After the earthquake of 528, the city was completely empty.

Other facts
Since the inhabitants of Sol, the descendants of the first settlers, entering into relations with the local population and mixing with it, lost the purity of the ancient Greek language , the name Solecism was derived from the name of their city in ancient rhetoric (σολοικισμός - wrong speech). According to other assumptions, the term was derived from the name of the Cypriot city of Sola .
