Chateau Saint Louis in Quebec (1620-1834)
Château-Saint-Louis ( Fr. Château Saint-Louis ) is the former official residence of the Governor of New France , then the British Governor of Quebec, the Governor General of British North America and the Vice Governor of Lower Canada.
Dufferin Terrace
History
Built in 1620 by Samuel de Champlain . Fort Saint-Louis became the seat of the government of New France in 1646 and was named in honor of King Louis XIII of France. Louis de Bouad where Frontenac rebuilt the castle from 1692 to 1700 . The castle was restored after the British conquered Quebec, but was destroyed by fire in 1834 . A wooden platform was built on the ruins of the castle in 1838 , and in 1878 a Dufferin terrace was built on this site.
