Tiempo [1] ( Spanish: El Tiempo , translated by Time) is a daily popular Colombian newspaper in Spanish . From its founding until 2007, the Santos family was the owner of the newspaper.

History
The newspaper was founded in 1911 by Alfonso Villegas Restrepo. In 1913, he sold it to his half-brother Eduardo Santos Montejo , who remained editor for more than 50 years. Until 2007, the newspaper as part of the Casa Editorial El Tiempo holding belonged to members of the Santos family, which has great influence in Colombian politics: Eduardo Santos from 1938 to 1942 was president of Colombia , Francisco Santos from 2002 to 2006 served as vice president, Juan Manuel Santos was elected President in 2010.
In 2007, a controlling stake in the diary was acquired by the Spanish media group Planeta .
