Content
Geography
The village is located in the Salsk steppes , 90 km from Rostov-on-Don . The area of its territory is 12.36 km².
The railway line Bataysk - Salsk runs through the village, on which the Mechetinskaya railway station is located, which is part of the Rostov region of the North Caucasus Railway .
History
During the second Kuban campaign , in June 1918, Lieutenant-General Sergei Leonidovich Markov , one of the leaders of the White movement in southern Russia and the organizers of the Volunteer Army, died in the village of Mechetinskaya.
From 1924 to 1960, the village was the regional center of the abolished Mechetinsky district of the Rostov region.
In September 1960, the district was abolished and Zernogradsky district of the Rostov region was formed instead of it, and the district center was moved from Mechetinskaya to Zernograd.
At the moment, the village is the second largest by area and by population of the settlement of Zernogradsky district. The village of Mechetinskaya - the oldest settlement of Zernogradsky district.
