British Columbia Geography

British Columbia is Canada's westernmost province on the shores of the Pacific Ocean . By area (944 735 km²), it is the third province of Canada .

The province is about 4 times larger than the UK , 2.5 times larger than Japan , and in Russia it is second only to Yakutia , the Krasnoyarsk Territory, and the Tyumen Region .

The southern boundary of British Columbia was defined by the Oregon Treaty of 1846. Mountain ranges rise over the province, including the Canadian Rockies , the Coastal Range , the Cascade Mountains and the Columbia Mountains .

Most of the population is concentrated on the Pacific coast, especially in the Vancouver region, located on the southwestern tip of the continent, in Lower Mainland .
