Sasha Roise ( born Sasha Roiz , born October 21, 1973 , Tel Aviv ) is a Canadian actor. Best known for playing Sam Adama in the series Caprica , as well as Captain Sean Renard in the series Grimm .

Biography

Born in Jaffa ( Israel ), in the family of Soviet immigrants Jacob Roizman and Rimma Kogan [3] [4] . In 1980, together with his parents and brother Ilan, he moved to Montreal ( Canada ), where his father worked as an engineer and subsequently headed the construction and energy company CEATI International Inc [5] [6] . Yakov Aleksandrovich Roizman, father of the actor, is a graduate of the Department of Industrial Electronics of the Tomsk Institute of Radio Electronics and Electronic Engineering (1968) [7] [8] [9] .

After graduation, he studied history at college. Before devoting himself to the acting profession, Sasha in his youth was actively involved in athletics and music. From 1996 to 1999 he was a drummer in the Canadian indie rock band Tricky Woo nominated for Juneau [10] . After the release of the third album Sometimes I Cry in 1999, he left the band and took up what he always considered his true calling: “I entered the theater school when I was 25 and studied for about 4 years. I always wanted to be an actor, but in the early stages I did not have enough determination to make my dream a reality ” [11] [12] .

In 2002 he graduated from the Guildford School of Acting in England . Returning to Canada, Sasha Royce worked at the theater in Montreal for a year, then moved to Toronto , where he gained experience as a theater and film actor for four years. In 2005, he was nominated for the prestigious Theater Masks Award in Quebec, in the category "Best Supporting Actor" [13] . In 2007, he moved to Los Angeles , where he currently lives and works.

Career

He began his television acting career in 2001, with participation in the TV series “ Largo ”. In 2003, Sasha was invited to the role of one of the regular characters, Stephen Lils, in the sports television drama “Playmakers” and he starred in six episodes.

In 2004, he made his debut on the big screen - he took part in the filming of "The Day After Tomorrow " with Jake Gyllenhaal and Dennis Quaid . The following year, he starred in the films “ Assault on the 13th Section ” and “ Land of the Dead, ” and joined the cast of the show Me Yours television series as Chase Banks. In 2006, he received a role in the disaster film "The Path to September 11th" and also starred in " Man of the Year " with Robin Williams and Christopher Walken . In 2007, he got the lead role in the Canadian detective mini-series Across the River to Motor City - Sasha Royce played insurance investigator Ben Ford, who had to investigate the disappearance of his lover, stewardess Katie Wilton [14] . In 2008, he played the role of Olympic champion Alex Baumann in the film “Victor: Victor Davis Story” [15] .

Over the next few years he participated, as a guest actor, in such famous TV shows as “ CSI: Miami ”; “ Lie to me ”; " House Doctor "; The " mentalist " and some others. In 2009, he auditioned for the role of Tauron gangster Sam Adama in the American science fiction series Caprica . [16] [17] The series lasted only one season and Sasha Royz starred in 17 of 18 episodes. In 2011, he joined the main cast of the television series " Grimm " [18] , which premiered on October 28, 2011, on the NBC channel. In 2012, he played the role of Thomas Jacobs in the movie "Extraction", which premiered on March 10, 2012.

In 2016, he changed his Canadian citizenship to American [19] .

Personal life

The family of the actor, after moving to Canada, changed the name Roizman to a shorter Royz. The actor speaks four languages: English, French, Hebrew and Russian; in his family, the main language of communication is Russian.

Sasha Royz still devotes a lot of time to music - he plays the guitar and piano , sometimes sings, although drumsticks , as he himself said in an interview, “are in the past” [20] .
