Vladimir Dmitrievich Laskarev ( June 26, 1868 , metro Biryuch , Voronezh province - April 10, 1954 , Belgrade ) - Russian geologist, professor at Novorossiysk and Belgrade universities, a member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences .

Biography

He graduated from Novorossiysk University in 1892, was left to prepare for a professorship.

In 1898 he was sent abroad, where for two years he worked in museums, universities and libraries of Zagreb , Vienna , Munich , Rome and other European cities.

Since 1901 - privat-docent . In 1903 he received a master 's degree , in 1904 - a doctor of geology. In the same year, became extraordinary professor in the department of geology.

In 1896 he became a member of the Geological Committee . Engaged in geological research in southwestern Russia and Eastern Europe .

In 1914 he was awarded the Akhmatov Prize of the Academy of Sciences and was elected professor of geology at Novorossiysk University for his great contribution to the study of the geological structure of the European continent .

After the Civil War , together with a group of scientists, writers and professors , he was expelled by the Soviet authorities for political unreliability.

He taught geology at the University of Athens in Greece , and later moved to Yugoslavia , where he became a professor at the University of Belgrade . At that time, the rector was his old friend and colleague, Jovan Zviich . He gave lectures on geology and paleontology , was engaged in compiling geological maps of the surroundings of Belgrade .

In 1924, for the first time used the term Paratethys to refer to the famous prehistoric ocean [1] .

Published about 40 works on geology and mineralogy . Corresponding Member (1932), Full Member (1947) of the Serbian Royal Academy of Sciences .

He died on April 10, 1954 in Belgrade .
