Biography
Arkady Popov was born on December 5, 1926 in the village of Martemyanovskaya (Lugi) in the Kargopol district of the Vologda province (now Plesetsk district of the Arkhangelsk region ). Orphaned early, having lost his mother in one year, and his father at the age of seven. Arkady Ivanovich did not have sisters and brothers. After graduating from a four-year primary school, he entered the collective farm. From a young age he had to earn his own bread - he worked as a shepherd, plowed the land, sowed. In 1939 he graduated from the eight classes of the Maymaksan evening school No. 9. From 1939 to 1944 he worked at the V. I. Lenin collective farm.
In 1944 he was drafted into the Red Army , participated in the battles of World War II . He served as a sailor of the 20th separate engineering and airdrome battalion of naval aviation as part of the White Sea naval flotilla , prepared runways for aircraft. I personally received gratitude for the help from the English pilots, who in September 1944 dealt a successful blow to the fascist battleship Tirpitz .
After demobilization, he arrived in Arkhangelsk . In 1948 he came to work at sawmill No. 25 (subsequently Sawmill and Woodworking Plant No. 1 ) and forever tied his fate to him. Arkady Popov worked at LDK No. 1 for 35 years, 30 of them as a rammer of a sawmill. He established himself as a skilled and responsible worker, a virtuoso of his craft. During the period of work at the plant he personally trained more than 200 people by profession of a frame man.
On May 4, 1971, by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Arkady Ivanovich Popov was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Hammer and Sickle Medal . A high rank was awarded for repeatedly exceeding the plan for cutting wood. Arkady Ivanovich is one of three workers in the woodworking industry of the Arkhangelsk region who have been awarded this title (the other two are Mikhail Vasilyevich Olekhov , the rammer of the Arkhangelsk sawmill named after V.I. Lenin and Boris Ivanovich Zavyalov , the rammer of the Solombala sawmill and woodworking plant (LDK)).
On November 19, 1974 , on the eve of the VI Lomonosov readings, the Arkhangelsk city executive committee decided to confer the title “Honorary Citizen of Arkhangelsk” to Arkady Ivanovich Popov. [one]
