Darreshehr ( Persian دره شهر ) is a city in the west of Iran , in the province of Ilam . The administrative center of the shahrestan Darreshehr . As of 2006, the population was 18,214 people [1] . The city is a significant regional agricultural center, and its surroundings are rich in forests.

Geography
The city is located in the east of Ilam, in the highlands of western Zagros , at an altitude of 661 meters above sea level [2] . Darreshehr is located approximately 100 kilometers southeast of Ilam , the provincial capital, and 450 km southwest of Tehran , the country's capital.
History
Between modern Darreshekhrom and the town of Behmenabad lie the ruins of an ancient policy of the same name dating back to the reign of the Sassanid dynasty . In the structure of the ruins, the remains of arches, buildings, streets and alleys that form the quarters of the ancient city are clearly distinguishable [3] .
