Richard Arkwright Jr. was portrayed by Joseph Wright with his wife Mary and daughter Anne. The portrait was painted in 1790 and was conceived as an addition to the portrait of Sir Richard, also made by Wright. The portrait was considered the best of four paintings that hung in the dining room of the Arkwright family estate - Willersley Castle. The painting was rented to the Derby Museum and Art Gallery and was sold at auction in Sotheby's on November 29, 2001 [3] .
