August-91 is a public organization created in the early 1990s in St. Petersburg and uniting volunteers participating in the resistance to the putsch of the State Emergency Committee on August 19-21, 1991.
note : in 1991 in Moscow an organization of participants in the GKChP resistance was created under the same name, but both organizations - Moscow and St. Petersburg - are completely independent.
Content
Tasks
The main objectives of the organization:
- liaise between volunteers, participants in the GKChP resistance during the August coup of 1991;
- save documents and materials related to the events of August 19-21, 1991;
- express the position of former volunteers on important political and public issues of interest to them;
- organize meetings of participants in the events of August 1991 (usually held on the days of August 19-22).

Archive and Relics
Among the archival materials kept by the members of the August-91 Committee are lists of volunteers who took part in the protection of the Mariinsky Palace and the Leningrad television center, newspapers, photographs, leaflets related to the events of August 19-21, 1991, as well as the historical flag raised over St. Petersburg on August 22, 1991
