Description
Breast is red-brown. The front edge of the clypeus without cutting. Working ants are small to large, have a length of 6-14, females - 15-18, males - 9-12 mm. Nest in the wood. [3]
Its name, sometimes proposed, is the Red-bellied wood-ant [4] and is not used anywhere and does not correspond to reality, since it can only have the base of the first abdominal tergite in red (from yellowish-red to brown), while the rest of it is black. Therefore, it is often confused with a close view - the Red - breasted wood-ant ( Camponotus herculeanus ). [five]
Distribution
It is found in the forests of mainland Central Europe , the Caucasus and Asia Minor. Not available in the UK, Ireland and some islands. [6] [7] [5]
Guard Status
It is included in the Appendix to the Red Book of Moscow as a species that needs constant monitoring and observation on the territory of the capital. [one]
