Pankrac ( czech. Pankrác ) is a historic district of the city of Prague , Czech Republic . Located south of the city center in the hills on the right bank of the Vltava River. Part of the administrative district of Prague 4 .
The name of the district comes from the ancient church of St. Pankratia located here.
At the end of the 19th century, the name of the district became associated with the built here in 1889 . At the moment, it is used as a detention facility and a prison. Nearby is the building of the Palace of Justice, which houses ; the buildings are connected by an underground tunnel.
In the first half of the 20th century, the Java motorcycle factory was located in Pankratz.
