Margarita I (Countess of Flanders)

Margarita's parents are Count of Flanders Thierry of Alsace and his 2nd wife Sibylla of Anjou (c. 1112/1116 - 1165).

The granddaughter of the father - Duke of Lorraine Thierry II , the mother - Count of Anjou and King of Jerusalem Fulk V.

Around 1160, she married Raul II , Count of Vermandois, but this marriage was declared not fulfilled.

In April 1169, she married Count Eno and Margrave Namur Baudouin V , the son of Count Eno Baudouin IV and Alice Namur, daughter of Gottfried Namur , for the second time.

Baudouin V and Margarita I of Alsace had five sons and three daughters:

• Isabella (April 23, 1170 - March 15, 1190) - the wife of King Philip II of France.
• Baudouin VI (July 1172-1205) - Count of Flanders and Hainaut, emperor of the Latin Empire.
• Yolanda de Hainaut (1175-1219) - wife of Pierre II de Courtenay .
• Philip I the Noble (1175–9 October 1212) - Margrave of Namur.
• Henry I (1176-16 June 1216) - Emperor of the Latin Empire.
• Sibylla (January 1179–9, 1217), wife of Guichard de God.
• Eustace (died 1219 ) - regent of the Thessaloniki kingdom .
• Gottfried de Hainaut.

In 1177, was appointed her brother Philip I of Alsace, heiress to the throne of Flanders. In 1191, Philip I died during the Third Crusade and Margarita became the Countess of Flanders. Together with her, her husband Baudouin V (under the name of Baudouin VIII) became a co-ruler.

Margarita I of Alsace died in 1194.
