Phoenix is the fourth studio album from the Dutch band Clan of Xymox , released (under the name of the Xymox group) in 1991 via Wing Records . The disc was the second work of the group, which received recognition from the mass audience, and reached the 163rd position on the Billboard 200 chart , and the single “Phoenix of My Heart” rose to 16th place in club charts and became a hit in the United States . However, Phoenix was sold significantly worse than the previous album Twist of Shadows , which led to disagreements between the members of Clan of Xymox and the label's leadership [1] .

Style, Critic Reviews
Music critic Alex Henderson in his review noted the increased tendency to simplify the group's music and translate it into a more mainstream direction. In his opinion, Clan of Xymox retained their darkness, but at the same time they began to focus more on listeners of pop-rock than on fans of classical gothic music ; he considered the album as a whole “not the most original”, but “pleasant to listen to” [2] .
Clan of Xymox frontman Ronnie Morings subsequently admitted that while working on the disc, the group experienced a kind of “ identity crisis ” and the strong bias towards dance music was explained by the fact that the owners of the Wing Records label dictated their conditions to the band and made them write more fashionable and easy for the perception of music [3] .
