The Volga and Furman districts are located on the Rostov-Plyos ridge, which in the Zavolzhsky district passes into the Galich-Chukhloma.

The main rivers are the Volga , Shacha , Teza, Osya , Takha , Ingar , Shokhonka. The river Saca flows along the western edge. From the north-west to the southeast, the Volga-Uvod river-channel flows.

History

Ancient History

The history of the settlement and development of the Upper Volga goes back centuries. The first settlers appeared here from time immemorial. Excavations of the mounds, toponymy indicates that the territory of the present Plyos was settled before the ninth century. Then Ugro-Finnish tribes lived here: Meria, Muroma, all. Gradually, these tribes were pushed back beyond the Volga; some merged with the Slavs.

District History

The district was established in accordance with the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the RSFSR of March 27, 1946 due to the disaggregation of the Seredsky district . The village councils entered the district: Annensky, Georgievsky, Goko-Chirikovsky, Gorshkovsky, Krasinsky, Krenevsky, Kunestinsky, Melenkovsky, Novsky, Rozhdestvensky, Tolpyginsky, Yakovlevsky . On June 18, 1954, as a result of enlargement, the village councils Georgievsky, Melenkovsky, Yakovlevsky, Annensky were liquidated. On August 22, 1960, the Novsky Village Council was abolished. On February 1, 1963, according to the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the RSFSR "On the consolidation of rural areas, the formation of industrial areas and changes in the subordination of districts and cities of the Ivanovo region," the district was liquidated, its territory entered the Furman rural area , with the exception of the cities of Volga and Ples , transferred to administrative subordination Furman City Council [2] .

On May 4, 1983, the district was restored at the expense of part of the territory of the Furmanovsky district . The cities of Privolzhsk and Plyos , village councils: Goko-Chirikovsky, Krasinsky, Kunestinsky, Novsky, Rozhdestvensky, Plesssky, Tolpyginsky, Utessky were transferred to the newly formed district. On November 2, 1983, the Krasinsky Village Council was renamed Ingarsky . On September 27, 1990, the Fedorishchensky Village Council was formed [3] .

On February 25, 2005, in accordance with the Law of the Ivanovo Region No. 48-OZ [4] , 5 municipalities were formed in the district: 2 urban and 3 rural settlements.

Historic Settlements

The Volga municipal district includes:

  • Plesk city settlement. The city of Plyos is an old, unusually picturesque city, with a rich history. The emergence of Ples as a fortress city dates to the end of the 12th century . Plyos is located on the Volga River, along which the border with the Kostroma region passes. The right bank on which the city is built is especially high. The difference in relief here reaches 50 meters. In the XII - XV centuries , the main urban composition was formed, which has survived to this day. A fortress was located on a high hill, an urban posad stretched along the Volga, settlements grew around which various crafts developed. The significance of Ples as a fortified point is lost only by the 17th century . During this period, it becomes the center of a vast church district. In the late 1770s , Plyos briefly became a county town of the Kostroma province, later it was again transferred to the category of state cities. During this period, a large number of merchants settled in the city, and wholesale trade was developing. Factories, factories and workshops are being built in and around the city. In the last quarter of the 19th century , in connection with the construction of the railway in Kineshma in 1871 (approximately 60 km down the Volga), the city was largely losing its former economic importance as a point of intersection of trade routes. Ples turns into a quiet, philistine town. Until now, the city has perfectly preserved the environmental development of the late XVIII - early XX centuries . Through the city pass two of the most important tourist routes in the European part of Russia, the Golden Ring and the Volga. Plyos is a town where genuine harmony of architecture and nature is achieved, where architecture has become part of the unique Volga landscape. Since 1982, the Plyos State Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve began to operate, which includes the I. I. Levitan House-Museum, the Museum of Landscape, an exhibition of decorative and applied art, and a historical exposition. It is planned to create a museum and exhibition complex in the building of the former Government Offices on Cathedral Mountain. The stock collections of the museum reserve 18.5 thousand storage units. The territory of the museum-reserve is 78 hectares, the protected area is 256 hectares, the area of the protected landscape is more than 20,000 hectares. The area of Plesky urban settlement is 8.47 km².
  • Volga city settlement. The city of Privolzhsk was mentioned in 1500 as a “monastery village”. Privolzhsk (previously the village of Yakovlevskoye) is interesting as one of the places where factory continuous production was born. Its source was the home weaving of peasants. The village of Yakovlevskoye has long been famous for its canvas, towels, napkins. Currently, the assortment of products manufactured by Yakovlevskaya Manufactory LLC includes jacquard products, table linen, tablecloths, paths, towels, linen canvas, tablecloth canvas. Linen and half-linen fabrics, as well as costume, dress and linen fabrics.
  • The long-standing traditions of jewelers of the Volga Region continue at once, several enterprises of the region are at once, these are Privolzhsky Jewelry Factory Krasnaya Presnya CJSC, Privolzhsky Jeweler Factory LLC, Workshop Almaz-Holding No. 2 CJSC and others.
