Latvian Chess Championship - Latvian national championship, regularly held since 1924.
History
Professional chess players appeared in Latvia in the 19th century. They participated in the congresses of the Baltic Chess Union and tournaments held by the Riga Chess Society. Only with independence, national championships began to be held. Initially they were called Latvian Chess Congresses. The first Latvian Chess Congress was held in 1924, and the history of the Latvian chess championships begins with it. Championships were held in Riga, and sometimes in other cities.
