Biography
Daughter of artist Joseph Foxcroft Cole and Belgian pianist Irma de Pelgrom. As a child, Chase traveled a lot with her parents in Europe and the American West . She began to paint under the guidance of her father, his friend Winslow Homer and Frederick Winton , and Homer painted it several times as a child. Then she studied at an art school in Boston with Frank Weston Benson and Edmund Tarbell . Since 1890 , she improved in Paris under the leadership of Jean-Paul Laurent and Carolius-Duran . Since 1892 , she was married to Boston architect William Chase.
The first solo exhibition of Cole Chase took place in 1901 . In 1904 and 1915 , she won silver medals at international exhibitions in San Francisco and St. Louis, respectively. In 1906 , she was elected a corresponding member of the National Academy . It is known mainly as the author of portraits, especially women.
