History
The canton was created in the 19th century under the name Bastia Terra Nova. On August 18, 1973, it was territorially changed and became known as Bastia-2 (Fango). The canton included part of the commune of Bastia [2] .
According to the law of May 17, 2013 and the decree of February 14, 2014, the number of cantons in the Upper Corsica department decreased from 30 to 15. The new territorial division of the departments into cantons entered into force during the 2015 elections. Thus, the part of the commune of Bastia that belongs to the canton of Bastia-2 was redefined on March 22, 2015 [3] [4] .
