Sons and Lovers is the third novel by the English writer David Herbert Lawrence . The work was written in 1913 . The book describes the life of a young man named Paul Morel, who was born into a coal minerβs family in the small town of Westwood, Nottinghamshire . The red thread through the novel is the love of children for their mother. Paul is most attached to her: unlike his brothers and sisters, he will never be able to leave his mother's house until her death.

The novel largely describes the life of the author himself. Lawrence was the fourth child in a miner family living in the town of Eastwood in Nottinghamshire. Like the hero of the book, he worked for some time at the factory of medical equipment [1] .
