Geography

The area is located in the semi-desert zone in the extreme southeast of the Saratov region . In the north, the district borders with the Novouzensky district , in the south and southeast with the Kaztalovsky district of the West Kazakhstan region of Kazakhstan . The length of the borders of the district is 254 km, of which 165 km are state borders. The length of the district from north to south is 74 km, and from east to west - 48 km. The territory of the district is 2.7 thousand km².

This is a shallow, arid territory, the sources in most cases are highly mineralized, so there is an acute problem with drinking water. Settlements are mainly confined to the valleys of the Bolshoi and Maly Uzen rivers, to numerous natural estuaries . A flat surface without woody vegetation gives a good overview, but is devoid of visual landmarks.

History

The district was formed in January 1935 as a result of the disaggregation of the Novouzensky region as part of the Saratov Territory (since 1936 - in the Saratov Region ).

From 1960 to 1973, the Aleksandrovo-Gaysky district was liquidated; its territory was part of the Novouzensky district .

On April 13, 1973, the Aleksandrov-Gaysky district was restored.
