Geography
The river originates in the Chamzinsky district of Mordovia, on the border with the Bolshebereznikovsky district. Then it flows southeastward through almost treeless terrain. The depth in the area ranges from 0.3 to 1.3 m (in the pits up to 1.8 m), the flow velocity is 0.5-0.6 m / s. Higher aquatic vegetation is practically not expressed. The area is treeless, the banks are covered with willow, stand-alone alder trees and can be either steep or gentle. At the village of Simkino, the Bolshebereznikovsky district, at the entrance to the floodplain prisursky forests, the river changes its direction to the southwest. Approaching Sura, Chermiley changes its direction to the west and flows parallel to Sura, passing through a series of old-style lakes (Wide, Long, Yellow and Zaton). The last lake - Zaton - is connected to the Sura by a small (50 m long) canal having an extension, a small bay at the mouth. The area of the lakes is small, the largest - Wide has an area of about 1 hectare. The depth of the lakes is also shallow, up to 3 m. The total length of the river is 38 km. There is a channel between the lakes (locals call it “Parawatka”), which has river features in different areas. In such places, the depth is up to 0.8-1.2 m (average 1 m, in some holes it can reach up to 2.5 m), the flow velocity is 0.3-0.4 m / s. Higher aquatic vegetation in the duct is represented by rdests, water lilies, egg capsules, etc. The shores are completely covered with forest consisting of linden , alder , oak , aspen, etc. The entire chain of lakes is flooded at high floods [2] .
