Alazani

Pyritsel Alazani [1] [2] ( Pirikiti-Alazani [2] cargo. პირიქითი ალაზანი , Pirikita-Alazani [2] , Pyrikiteli-Alazani [2] , in the upper Kvakhidistskali [1] cargo. სწყახიი ) geographical area of Tusheti in the north-east of Georgia . It flows through the territory of the Akhmeta municipality of Kakheti in the northern part of Tusheti National Park . Left tributary of the Andean river Koisu [3] .

The name of the river in the upper reaches is Kvakhidistskali ( Georgian. ქვახიდისწყალი ), when translated from Georgian, it splits into three parts: cargo. ქვა (kva) - stone , cargo. ხიდის (hidis) - bridge (that is, the noun bridge in the genitive case) and cargo. წყალი (tskali) - water, river [4] .

The river is 46 [3] (49 [5] ) km long. The basin area is 368 km² [3] .

The sources of the river are located at an altitude of> 3000 m above sea level , between the peaks of Pirchita (3783 m) and Tebulosmta (4492 m) at the junction of the Tebulos and Atsunta ridges , near the border of Georgia with Russia . In the upper reaches, before the confluence of Larovanis-Tskali, it flows mainly to the southeast and east between the Rouen and Tusheti ranges; in the middle and lower reaches flows between the Alazani and Tusheti ranges, and the southeast is the predominant direction [6] [7] [1] . The width of the river at the beginning of the lower reaches is 12 m, the depth is 1.2 m [8] .

The mouth of the Pirikitelskaya Alazani is located 144 km along the left bank of the Andiyskoy Koisu River, at an altitude of 1603 meters above sea level, north of the village of Shenako [9] [3] . The current velocity near the mouth reaches 2.2 m / s [8] .

High water falls in the second half of spring and summer, the maximum water level is reached in July, the low-water period lasts from November to April. The average annual water flow at the mouth is 10.2 m³ / s. More than half of the runoff occurs in summer and autumn (56%), in spring - 34% and in winter - 10% [5] .

The main tributaries of the Pyricitel Alazani are Larovanis-Tskali , which flows into it to the right above the non-residential village of Girevi , and Didihevi , which flows to the left of the village of Dartlo [5] [1] .

The following settlements are located near the river: Dano , Dartlo , Omalo , Shenako [1] .
