Shontas - a river in Russia , flows in the Sokolsky , Totemsky and Mezhdurechensky districts of the Vologda region . The mouth of the river is 346 km along the left bank of the Sukhon River . The length of the river is 36 km.

The source is in the Sokolsky district , 75 km northeast of Kadnikov and 75 km southwest of Totma , not far from the source of the Retcha . The main course of the river runs along the Prisukhonskaya lowland in a swampy, wooded area. The channel is meandering. In the upper reaches the river flows through the territory of Sokolsky district, in the lower reaches - Totemsky and Mezhdurechensky, forming a border of the districts over a certain section. The direction of the current is in the upper reaches east, in the middle course - south, in the lower southeast.
