The source of Shomitsy is located southwest of the villages Zabolotnoye and Veliky ( Kubensky rural settlement ), 32 km northwest of Vologda .

The general direction of the current is northwest, the largest tributaries are Melenka, Trushenka, Krapivka (all right). On the river banks of the village of Kubensky rural settlement : Filkino , Khamenikov , Semenkovo , Vasilevo , Doronkino (left bank); Elyakovo (right bank). It flows into Vologda just below the village of Babik .
