Coins of space subjects is a collective term for commemorative coins of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation dedicated to commemorative events in the history of space exploration.

The information that humanity possesses about the Universe as a single whole is the result of astronomical observations. And while in most natural sciences the variety of sources of information is not limited by anything, then in the overwhelming majority of cases the astronomer has one - light. And only three properties are available for research: gloss, polarization, and spectrum. There are only three main factors that determine these properties: speed and distance to the body emitting light, its geometry and state of matter.
Release History
The Bank of Russia minted several issues of space-themed coins. The first was the 1992 coin, dedicated to the international year of space.
In 2001, the space theme was continued in the form of the issue of coins in honor of the 40th anniversary of the space flight of Yu. A. Gagarin , commemorative coins with a face value of 2 and 10 rubles, as well as 2 silver coins were minted. The circulation of the series for 2001 amounted to more than 41 million pieces.
The series was continued only after 6 years, when in 2007 a coin of 925 silver was minted dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the launch of the first artificial Earth satellite, the launch was carried out on October 4, 1957 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome . The space series increased by another 10,000 pieces.
In 2009, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation issues another commemorative investment coin with a face value of 3 rubles. The coin is dedicated to the beginning of programs for the study of the moon in 1959 . The circulation of the series has been increased by another 5,000 units.
The extreme coins in this series were two coins of 2011 , they are dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the first manned flight into space. A coin of 999 gold with a face value of 1,000 rubles became only the 10th in the Central Bank catalog. And its retail price at the time of release was 370,000 rubles.

1992
In 1992, 3 ruble coins from base metals were issued. It became the second commemorative coin of the Bank of Russia . This is the first Bank of Russia coin dedicated to space issues. The coin was minted in runs with different quality, namely as proof-like and brilliant uncirculated .
It is worth noting the very unusual design of the obverse of the coin, coins with a similar design were issued only from the first to the third quarter of 1992.

Issue of Similar Coins by Other Countries
- The largest number of space-themed coins were issued by the Marshall Islands - 58 pieces, Russia - 29 pieces.
- On April 12, 2011, the Central Bank of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic put into circulation a commemorative silver coin of 5 rubles denomination “50 years of man in space”. The reverse of the new coin depicts the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin against the background of the planet Earth, made in color. There are also images of spacecraft and an astronaut in open space against the background of stars with inserts of two semiprecious stones, as well as the inscription - the famous Gagarin's “Let's go!”.
- In 2007, Mongolia issued a 5,000 Tugrik gold coin dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the launch of the world's first artificial Earth satellite in the USSR .
