Saxe- Römhild (Sachsen-Römhild , German: Sachsen-Römhild ) - Ernestine duchy in the southern foothills of the Thuringian Forest , which lasted only 30 years in the period 1680-1710.
The Duchy arose in 1680 during the division of the inheritance of the Duke of Saxe-Gotha Ernst I the Pious between his many accompanying sons and passed to Heinrich Saxe-Römhild , the fourth son of the Duke. The duchy included the amts of Röhmild, Königsberg in Bavaria, Temar, Berungen and Milz. The Duke of Saxe-Römhild did not have sovereign power.
After the death of Henry in 1710, the lands of the duchy were divided between the duchies of his brothers remaining at that time: Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg , Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld , Saxe-Meiningen and Saxe-Gildburggauzen .
During the reorganization of the Ernestine duchies in 1826, the entire territory of the former duchy of Saxe-Römhild was transferred to Saxe-Meiningen.
