Biography
Hal Ashby was born on September 2, 1929 in the city of Ogden , Weber County, Utah , USA into a family of Mormon farmers. Due to difficult family circumstances, he did not finish school, moved to California and got a job as an assistant editor at a Hollywood editing.
The first independent work was the black comedy directed by Tony Richardson " Unforgettable ", filmed on the story by the same name by Evelyn Waugh and received high marks from the experts.
He made his debut as a director in 1970 with the full-length film “ Landowner ”, shot in the aesthetics of “ New Hollywood ”. For his work as an editor in the film directed by Norman Jewison, “The Soulful Southern Night, ” he was awarded the Oscar .
Spouse - actress Joan Marshall.
