" Penthesilea " ( German: Penthesilea ) - the tragedy of the German playwright Heinrich von Kleist based on the ancient myth of the Amazon Queen Empress Pentisele - the daughter of Ares and Otrera . The first production took place on April 25, 1876. There are two translations into Russian by F. Sologub and A. N. Chebotarevskaya; Yu. B. Korneev.

Description
Actors [1] : Pentesilea (Queen of the Amazons), Protoe, Meroe, Asteria (noble Amazons); High Priestess Diana , Antilochus , Achilles , Odysseus , Diomedes , Greeks and Amazons.
The action takes place on the battlefield near Troy [1] .
The tragedy was written in 1806-1807, based on one of the versions of the myth of Penthesilea and Achilles [2] .
Story
Pentesilea - Queen of the Amazons - fights in the Trojan war against the Achaean Greeks [3] [4] . She falls in love with the Achaean hero Achilles, because of which she is forced to go against the law and traditions by which her tribe lived [4] . A law that denies love for a man [4] .
Two trials await Pentesilea: the high priestess accuses her of betrayal; Achilles' messenger brings her a challenge to battle [4] . Insulted by her lover and unable to stand the reproaches of her friends, she falls into madness and rushes into battle, lowering dogs to her beloved [4] .
