A cage is an artificially limited living space on all sides for keeping birds and animals in captivity, which is made in the form of a box of twigs and trellises or nets - a permanent habitat for pets with full and partial life support.
Content
Purpose
The cage is designed for both keeping and transporting animals. In some cases, cells have also been used to contain and transport people. Sometimes live-catch cells are used to capture animals. Often a cell is also used to prevent escape. In the case when a predator ( or dangerous criminal ) is in the cage, the cage serves as a means of safety for people outside. In some cases, the cage ensures the safety of people during underwater research: swimmers inside the cage can observe and even feed sharks.
Design
The side walls of the cell are made in the form of rods (rods) or wires, between which there are gaps. This design provides air access and visibility (good visibility of the insides of the cell from the outside). The rods or wire strands are usually criss-cross in a grid for strength (otherwise the animal can push the rods apart and exit). Thick metal rods can be simply parallel. The floor and ceiling of the cell can be solid. The cage usually has a lockable door. However, small cells may have a removable top.
Individually Ventilated Cells (CPI)
Individually ventilated cells (IVC) are designed to contain SPF categories in laboratory animals , avoid contamination of animals and personnel, protect against dust and allergens, and contribute to the creation of an optimal microclimate in each individual cell [1] .
Trap Cells
Cells have long been used as tools for catching some animals. In this case, the bait is placed in the cage, and at the right moment the door is slammed. President Theodore Roosevelt , for example, hunted a bear with a cage. Currently, some mousetraps are the cells.
Keeping and transporting animals
Cages are widely used in zoos, providing viewers the opportunity to watch animals. At home, the cells are used for keeping birds , rodents .
Alternative Constructions
Rooms with glass walls ( terrariums ) also provide good visibility. However, they require ventilation, in addition, the fragility of the glass allows it to be used only for small animals. Fenced areas (aviaries) are also used, but they are not intended for transportation. Another alternative is keeping on a leash (chain), for example, this way elephants are usually kept.
