General Information

Cecile is one of the three children of Radoslav and Nely Karatanchev. Accordingly, she has two sisters - Gabriela and Elia. Father Karatancheva (in the past) is a very successful rower (participant in world championships and champion of Bulgaria), and his mother is a volleyball player (also champion of Bulgaria).

Cecile first came to court at age 5.

Among tennis idols, Karatancheva singles out Gabriela Sabatini ; the younger sister Cecile is named after the Argentinean.

Sports career

Personal tournaments

Already in her junior years, Cecile had high hopes as a potential leader in national and world tennis: in 2001 she was submissive to the prestigious North American Orange Bowl in her age group, and in less than three years she improved her game so much that she could not only play on equal in the older junior tour , where part of the competitors was her senior by four years, but also consistently achieve good results in major competitions, and even topped the ranking list, adding to his list of titles trophies at a major tournament in Ilan and at the Roland Garros .

Also early in the year, the Bulgarian began to try her hand at Protour, already in the fall of 2003, having played her first matches at this level. Having quickly gained confidence in her actions at a similar level, Karatancheva managed to prove herself well at the ITF series tournaments before the end of the year, where she managed to win three titles - including a victory at the 50,000th player in Shenzhen , where the 88th racket of the world Zheng Jie was replayed in the finals . A year later, progress continued - despite a very limited schedule, Cecile was able to climb into the Top200, regularly getting the opportunity to play in association tournaments, and at the US Open and getting the opportunity to play for the first time in the main draw of the Grand Slam tournament, having successfully completed the qualification. The year 2004 was filled with victories over the players of the first hundred, the most significant of which was at the March tournament in Indian Wells , where the Bulgarian turned out to be stronger than the 25th racket of the world Magee Serna . A year later, Karatancheva rose in the first hundred, steadily passing qualifications in small tournaments of the association; in May, Cecile was able to hold her best tournament of an adult career - at Roland Garros , a year after her junior success, she was able to break into the quarterfinals of the adult competition, leaving out of work the 21st racket of the world, Shinobu Asagoe and the 13th, Venus Williams . This and a number of other strong performances at major tournaments allowed her to climb to the 35th line of the single rating by the end of the year.

The rapid take-off also had a flip side: the training program for the grinder was built taking into account the border use of medicines, which revealed one of the doping tests in the summer of 2005. Attempts to communicate with WADA and ITF dragged on for several months, but did not lead to success; as a result, in January 2006, Karatancheva was deprived of the right to participate in protest competitions for 24 months. [2] The disqualification did not discourage Cecil from playing tennis and in the winter of 2008 she returned to the games; in less than six months, Cecile was able to get into the tournament rhythm so much that she won several middle titles in ITF competitions , and in June she again took part in the qualification of the Grand Slam tournament: at Wimbledon . Soon after this, Karatancheva reached the finals for the first time in the pair protest competitions: in the Austrian Bad Gastein , together with the Serbian Natasha Zorich, she lost in the title match of Andrea Glavachkova and Lucia Gradecka . The return to former positions, however, soon slowed noticeably, and sponsorship significantly decreased; Attempts to find support in the homeland for drawing up a feasible tournament schedule were unsuccessful and by January next year, Cecile accepted the offer of the Kazakhstan Federation to fly the flag of their country in exchange for assistance in the training process and payment of relocation. [3]

In a new place, Karatancheva was able to improve her results for a while, from time to time passing qualifications at Grand Slam tournaments and achieving local success in small association tournaments, but her former game form remained an unattainable dream. At the same time, the results that Cecile was able to make show were stably worse than the game uniforms of other tennis players attracted by Kazakhstan and by the fall of 2014, having tried a number of methods to improve the results of Karatancheva, they began to look for options for early termination of cooperation, and Cecile herself announced desire to return to the care of the Bulgarian Federation. National team and national tournaments

The career features of Karatancheva allowed her to play in the Federation Cup for two teams at once: in 2004-05 she played 13 matches for the Bulgarian team , and in 2010-14 she played 16 matches for the team of Kazakhstan . Almost all the matches of Cecile in this tournament were played in the games in the regional zone, in the games in which all the won matches of Karatancheva fell. In 2004 and 2005, the Bulgarian women, with the participation of Cecile, for the first time since 1996 made it to the matches of the world tournament group.
