50m backstroke competitions (men) at the 2009 World Aquatics Championships were held at the Foro Italico Sports Complex in Rome on August 1 and 2, 2009.

Qualifying rounds began on August 1 at 9:48 local time ( UTC + 2 ). Semifinals were held on the same day at 19:13, and the final on August 2.
