Biography

Magdalena Augusta is the daughter of Prince Karl Wilhelm of Anhalt-Zerbst and his wife Sofia Saxe-Weissenfelskaya , daughter of Augustus of Saxe-Weissenfels .

June 17, 1696 in Gotha Magdalena Augusta married the Duke of Frederick II of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg , who ruled since 1691. Letters written by the duchess to her husband and stored in the Gothic Library testify to a happy marriage. Magdalena Augusta refused to teach the youngest daughter English, who was planned to marry the heir to the British throne , explaining that “this is completely unnecessary, since the Hanover family has been on the English throne for more than twenty years, and the people in England and especially at court have already I must speak German as often and well as English . ”
