The 200m butterfly competition (men) at the 2009 World Aquatics Championships was held at the Foro Italico Sports Complex in Rome on July 28 and 29, 2009.

Qualifying rounds began on July 28 at 9:26 local time ( UTC + 2 ). Semifinals were held on the same day at 19:33, and the final on July 29.
