Biography

Born in Rostov-on-Don in the family of a railwayman.

Since 1943, he served as an instructor in the air defense headquarters of various fronts. The first poems were published in 1943 in the army newspaper of the 4th Ukrainian Front .

In 1950 he graduated from the A. Gorky Literary Institute in Moscow. As Benedict Sarnov later recalled,

At the Literary Institute, where I studied, it was he who was quoted below all our institute poets — our Komsomol leader, Igor Kobzev. Mandel (the future Korzhavin ) stood at the top step of this our institute poetic hierarchy. In this connection, Boris Slutsky then proposed the following formula for measuring poetic power: “One Mandel = One hundred Kobzei” [1] .

The first book of poems, Straight Paths, was published in 1952 ; as A. V. Blum points out, in 1956 this collection was withdrawn from libraries due to the abundance of Stalinist poems (for example, “Behind the Coffin of Zhdanov ”), as well as attacks on the Tito regime in Yugoslavia [2] . The first collection was followed by a number of books and publications in the mass press (especially in the magazine " Spark "). Kobzev, in particular, wrote:

All that is called Happiness
All that our century is adorned with is
I know, brought to life
Hands of our Party.
These are the hands of a soldier
And the hero of science,
These are the hands of the builder
Our Party hands!
From space far
To the depths of the ocean -
Everything owes fame
These hands are gigantic!
These hands in the Future
Launched a rocket
To the Sun and Happiness
Turn the whole planet!

He worked as a literary worker in the Komsomol life department of the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, as a freelance traveling correspondent for Ogonyok magazine.

In 1965 , the poet settled in a country house in the village of Semkhoz in the vicinity of Zagorsk (Sergiev Posad) in the Moscow Region . There he entered the literary circle led by I. M. Shevtsov . Subsequently, this group of 20 people began to call themselves a detachment of patriots, Radonezh .

Kobzev showed great interest in pagan Russia and for several years worked on a poetic translation of “Words about Igor’s Regiment” (published in the collection “Spring Care”, 1985 ), suggested that the author of the “Words” was Prince Igor himself [3 ] . In addition, the poet was a supporter of the authenticity of the Vlesova book , he was engaged in its poetic arrangement. In the poem "The Fall of Perun," the mouth of the Prophet Boyan Kobzev says:

If you accept, prince, the Christian way,
To us in Russia, I say in advance:
The clergy will fly by crow
They will bring "holy scripture."
Although the scripture is called “holy”,
It’s hard to find a lecherous book.
It contains lies, and dirt, and shameful fornication,
Both enmity and treason are fraternal.

In December 1977 , Kobzev organized the public museum “Words about Igor’s Regiment” in Moscow, which was located in the Pogodinsky hut at the Moscow branch of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture . Among the activists of the museum, there were about 100 people. The main goal of the museum was to study and promote the great monuments of Russian literature. The main work was carried out by the poet himself, who headed the museum from the day it was founded until his death.

Kobzev was also an artist - he owns a series of paintings on the plot of "Words ...".

He was buried in Moscow at the Kuntsevsky cemetery (10th section).
