Biography

Born on August 10, 1930 in the city of Leningrad .

In 1948 he entered the Geological Prospecting Department of the Leningrad Mining Institute named after G. V. Plekhanov , who graduated with honors with a degree in “geological surveying and prospecting for mineral deposits”, while receiving the qualification of “mining engineer-geologist” [1] .

In 1954-1984 he worked at the All-Union Geological Institute (VSEGEI). Since April 1954, as a junior research fellow, VSEGEI has been studying tin ore deposits in Maly Khingan . In 1957 he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of geological and mineralogical sciences (topic - “Mineralogy of the Khingan tin ore deposit” ). Since 1961 - Senior Researcher, Department of Metallogeny, VSEGEI; conducted scientific research on ore formations in various regions of the USSR (including the Urals, Central Kazakhstan, Transbaikalia, the Far East). In 1968 he defended his doctoral dissertation (topic - “Ontogenesis and phylogenesis of greisen deposits” ), after which in 1969 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences [1] . Since 1969, for 15 years, he worked as deputy director for science at VSEGEI.

Since 1976 he has the academic title of professor in the specialty "Metallogeny".

May 22, 1984 was elected a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences .

In 1984-1990 - Director of the Institute of Geology and Geochronology of the Precambrian RAS (IGGD), headed the metallogeny laboratory there (until 1993).

In June 1993 he was appointed director of the State Geological Museum. V. I. Vernadsky RAS (GGM RAS) [2] . Since 2002, the supervisor of the GGM RAS .

December 15, 1990, was elected a full member of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the Department of Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry and Mining Sciences (metallogeny) of the USSR Academy of Sciences [1] .

In 1996-2003 - academician-secretary of the Department of Earth Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences .

Advisor to the RAS , member of the Presidium of the RAS. Head of the international project "Atlas of metallogenic zoning Precambrian world"; Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journal “ Geology of Ore Deposits ”. Member of the sub-commission on metallogenic maps of the world of the International Union of Geological Sciences .

The main areas of research interests of D.V. Rundqvist: geology of ore deposits , global and regional metallogeny , mineralogy , petrography , geodynamics and seismotectonics . Studied: the zoning of deposits of tin, tungsten, molybdenum, nickel, copper; ore content of metasomatically altered rocks; granitoid magmatism and associated mineralization. Significant place in the scientific activity of D.V. Rundqvist was occupied by the formation analysis of rocks and ores, as well as its application in metallogenic studies and the predictive assessment of the territory of the USSR. He made a major contribution to the creation of regional metallogenic maps. He published a number of works on the history of geological sciences and the analysis of the achievements of outstanding domestic geologists [2] .

Under the guidance of D.V. Rundqvist and with his participation, capital monographs “Zonation of endogenous ore deposits” (1975), “Criteria for the prognostic assessment of territories for solid minerals” (1978), “Ore-bearing and formations of the earth's crust structures” (1981) were published , a series of books "Principles and methods for assessing the ore content of geological formations" (1983-1986), the monograph "Precambrian Geology of the USSR" (1988), "Minerals of Precambrian deposits of the USSR" (1991), "Fundamentals of metallogenic analysis in geological mapping of Precambrian" (1995). Beginning in 1984, on the basis of the formation analysis, the maps “USSR Metallogeny” (16 maps of the regions) and the series of maps “Forecasting the Territory of the Mineral Complex” covering the entire territory of the USSR were created. In 1986-1991 was editor in chief of the Atlas of Metallogenic Maps of the USSR [2] .
