Biography

Born January 1, 1878. He was educated at the Chisinau Real School, after which he was enrolled in the Moscow Military School in September 4, 1896. Released on August 8, 1898, as a second lieutenant in the 73rd Crimean Infantry Regiment .

Produced on August 13, 1901, on assignments, Piontkovsky soon successfully passed entrance exams to the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff , which he graduated in 1904 in the 1st category. On May 31, 1904 he was promoted to headquarters captain for his achievements in science.

March 8, 1904 was appointed senior adjutant to the headquarters of the 21st Army Corps . He took part in the Russian-Japanese war .

On June 20, 1905 he was transferred by the senior adjutant to the headquarters of the 51st Infantry Division and on September 28 of the same year he was transferred to the same position in the 61st Infantry Division. Being a member of this division in November 19, 1905, Piontkovsky was appointed company commander in the 174th Romny regiment to undergo professional qualifications. While remaining in the position of company commander of the Romny regiment until November 19, 1906, he was appointed chief officer for assignments at the headquarters of the Caucasian military district on September 10, 1906, was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 23, 1909, and was appointed senior adjutant of the headquarters on August 5, the same year. th Caucasian Army Corps .

On November 27, 1910, Piontkovsky was transferred to serve in the Separate Border Guard Corps and was appointed headquarters officer for assignments at the headquarters of the Zaamursky District. Despite this appointment, from May 15 to September 15, Piontkovsky served the battalion qualification command in the 77th Tenginsky Infantry Regiment . On February 27, 1913, he was appointed senior adjutant to the headquarters of the Amur Military District , but six months later, on August 9, he returned to the Caucasus and was appointed chief of staff of the 1st Caucasian Cossack Division. During the First World War, Piontkovsky fought on the Caucasus Front , was the chief of staff of the 5th Turkestan Rifle Brigade.
