Biography
Seven years old he moved with his family to Medina de Pomar , from 14 years old he lived in Burgos . He began to study music, played in the orchestra of the Academy of Engineering. In 1951 he moved to Madrid, he studied at the Conservatory. In 1959 he went to Rome on scholarships, studied at the Spanish Academy of Art with Goffredo Petrassi , Sergiu Celibidache and Bruno Maderna . Won the Rome Prize (1959). Returning to Spain, he studied at Santiago de Compostela with Andre Jolive and Alexander Tansman . He played in the Madrid City Orchestra ( clarinet ), taught harmony at the Madrid Conservatory . In 1981–1991 , he headed the Jesús Gurida de Vitoria School of Music.
He wrote music to more than 80 films, he also wrote for theater and television.

Recognition
Winner of numerous national awards, among them - the Goya Award for music for the film Pasodoble ( 1989 ). Member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts ( 1994 ). Honorary Doctor of Complutense University ( 1998 ). The name of the composer is the Madrid City School of Music.
