Archdiocese of Kaduna

The Archdiocese of Kaduna ( Latin: Archidioecesis Kadunaënsis ) is the archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church with its center in Kaduna , Nigeria . The Kaduna’s Metropolitanate includes the dioceses of the dioceses of Ilorin , Zaria , Kano , Kafanchan , Minna , Sokoto . The Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Kaduna is the Cathedral of St. Joseph .

History

On August 24, 1911, the Holy See established the apostolic prefecture of Eastern Nigeria, separating it from the apostolic prefecture of Niger (today - the Archdiocese of Benin City ).

On July 18, 1929, the Apostolic Prefecture of Eastern Nigeria was renamed the Apostolic Prefecture of Western Nigeria.

On April 9, 1934, Pope Pius XI released the A Nobis log , which transferred part of the territory of the apostolic prefecture of Western Nigeria to the new apostolic prefecture of Jos (today - the Archdiocese of Jos ) and at the same time renamed the apostolic prefecture of Western Nigeria to the apostolic prefecture of Kaduna.

On April 28, 1942, the apostolic prefecture of Kaduna transferred part of its territory for the construction of the new apostolic prefecture of Niamey (today - the Archdiocese of Niamey ).

On June 29, 1953, Pope Pius XII issued the bull "Magno gaudio" , which transformed the apostolic prefecture of Kaduna into a diocese and at the same time transferred part of the territory of the diocese of Kaduna for the construction of a new apostolic prefecture of Sokoto (today - the Diocese of Sokoto ). On the same day, the diocese of Kaduna entered the metropolis of Lagos .

On February 21, 1955, the diocese of Kaduna transferred part of its territory to the new apostolic prefecture of Kabba (today the Diocese of Lokoji ).

On June 16, 1959, Pope John XXIII issued the bull "Qui arcano Dei" , which elevated the diocese of Kaduna to the rank of archdiocese.

On July 10, 1995 and December 5, 2000, the Archdiocese of Kaduna transferred part of its territory to the new dioceses of Kafanchan and Zaria .
