Biography

Born in 1779 in the village of Shuyevo, Masalsky district, Kaluga governorship [1] in the family of a priest [2] . "The Great Russian" [3] .

In 1795 he entered the Kaluga Theological Seminary , from 1799 he studied at the Moscow Perervinsk Seminary , from where he was transferred again to the Kaluga Seminary in 1800, where he completed the course [2] .

In 1805, at the end of the seminar course, he was appointed an “informant” to the Kaluga Seminary, on September 1, 1807 - as a teacher, on January 24, 1810 - as an inspector [3] .

On March 3, 1812, he became a monk [2] and on March 10 of this year he was ordained a hieromonk , and in May, archimandrite of the Intercession of the Good Likhvin Monastery [3] .

On December 2, 1812, at the request of Bishop Jonah of Tambov, he was appointed rector and teacher of theology to the Tambov Seminary , as well as rector of the Predtechev Tregulyaev monastery and the present Tambov Consistory [3] .

In 1819, he was granted a scripture class.

In 1822 he was transferred by the abbot to the Kozlovsky Trinity Monastery, with his previous posts in the seminary and consistory [3] .

March 15, 1826 was transferred to the Tolgsky Mother of God Monastery near Yaroslavl , as a reward for his twenty-year ministry in the seminaries [3] .

In 1826 he was summoned to St. Petersburg on a series of priests and sermons [3] , which was preceded by the consecration to the episcopal dignity.

"Weak in health, he ran the monastery for four and a half years, died on October 5, 1830 and was buried against the altar of the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross" [4] .
