Biography

In 1911, Grünberg joined the SPD , in 1919 he moved to the NSDPG , and in 1920 he finally joined the Communists . He was one of the founders of the Union of Proletarian Revolutionary Writers (1928–1935). After the Nazis came to power, the Grunberg books were among the books burned on May 10, 1933 , and he himself was imprisoned in a concentration camp. Later, when he was released, he participated in anti-fascist resistance.

In the last days of April 1945, Grünberg became one of the organizers of the Berlin-Pank People's Committee. On May 2, the committee issued the first appeal to the residents of Pankov. Immediately after the end of the war, Grünberg re-established the local judicial system in Pankov. For several years he was the editor of the newspaper Tägliche Rundschau , but his main occupation until the end of his life was literature.

In 1953, Grunberg won the National Prize of the GDR .

Buried in the Berlin cemetery Grünau.
